Brian O'Rourke
Brain O'Rourke is interning with the Albany River Rats and Albany Conquest at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Most sports fans buy a ticket, enjoy the game, and go home. This internship with the Albany River Rats and Albany Conquest has given me an inside look at the work that goes into a sporting event. I have been fortunate enough to be involved with both offices at the Times Union Center, the sales office and the marketing/public relations office. Throughout the internship I have learned more about sports and the business of sports than if I were in a classroom. It's a fast-paced work hard/play hard atmosphere, that's what I love about it. -- Brian O'Rourke

Samantha Weyant is completing her internship at WXXA Fox News in Albany.

I love working my internship at WXXA Fox23 Sports. The people I work with are great and the atmoshpere of the news room is exciting. I also get to do so much and have learned a great deal. A lot of my work involves going out in the field to different sporting events. I interview coaches and players, edit highlights that actually go on the air and write my own news stories. This internship has been a great experience and I know I will take the knowledge I have obtained and use it in the future.

Matt Zaloga
Matt Zaloga's internship includes field shooting in the NYS Assembly Hearing Room.

Not only is an internship with the NYS Assembly Radio and TV good because it allows me to utilize much of the knowledge that I acquired at Saint Rose, it also provides a glance into what work in the field would be like. Sitting in a classroom will teach you quite a bit, but not even close to the amount that you can learn while actually performing tasks. I can honestly say that in the few months that I have been working with the Assembly, I have learned a great deal about myself and the field that I want to get into upon graduation.

Geoff Arbuckle
WNYT TV

Geoff ArbuckleI have been interning at WNYT NewsChannel 13 this semester with with the creative services department. I also worked with the editor at WNYT on commercial production. I learned the AVID editing software as well as how the transition from computer to air works. I partcipated in every step of the process from writing the spots, to meeting with the clients for approval, to on site shoots and the post production in the edit suite. I was also asked to edit current spots and make revisions and adjustments to current airing spots for various reasons. Those spots have aired. My time at WNYT has been a great experience in which I will continue to learn since I have been hired as the new News Promotion Producer at the station full-time. I will now be able to contribute to the WNYT team in more of a capacity than just an intern. -- Geoff Arbuckle

Ciara McCann on her internship at Capital Region Living Magazine.

It has always been a dream of mine to work at a magazine and this semester I was able to realize that dream through my internship at Capital Region Living Magazine. Not only are the people a pleasure to work with, but my assignments are fun and challenging. I get to write articles that I am interested in and help contribute to producing a well-rounded publication each month. I have had my writing in each issue since I've been interning at the magazine and it has been so exciting seeing my name in print. I have really enjoyed my time here and am sure my experiences will help me in the future. -- Ciara McCann

New York State Office for Technology

Lyndsay Murdock
Lyndsay Murdock is working with the marketing and communications group of the New York State Office for Technology in Albany. Lyndsay is pictured here with her site supervisor, Gail Tassarotti.

Interning at the Office for Technology has been a great experience so far. I’ve learned what it’s like to work for the state and all the little things you have to think about when producing marketing and communications material. I’m lucky to be able to be involved in many different projects here ranging from adding and removing content from our internal website and making banners for the public website, to managing customer satisfaction surveys and taking photos at various meetings and functions. I’m learning how to use many different types of software as well as using my skills in the programs I’m already familiar with. I’m glad I’m able to make a meaningful contribution to this agency.

Emily Gottstein
City of Albany Special Events & Volunteer Services
Emily Gottstein

As a lifelong resident of Albany, I always attended all the city-sponsored festivals and celebrations growing up. Yet, it wasn't until my internship in The Office of Special Events and Volunteer Services that I realized just how much work and preparation goes into every last detail of planning such events. From Tulip Festival, to Alive @ 5, to the Father's Day Pop's Concert, I was able to work on all of Albany's city-sponsored events throughout my internship. I absolutely loved the projects I worked on and the people I worked with and I am so grateful to have had this wonderful experience.
